Since goofing around with OG instagram filters from around 2010 to '12 seems to be a thing again in regard to the overflow of curated influencer content, I thought I'd upload the photos I made around exactly that time over a decade ago, doing exactly that: goofing around with instagram filters ... maybe I'll even try to get some sort of arrangement or even assemblage going ... well, maybe not! I will add new ones every now and then, with copy on a whim. I have no clue what filters I used, because they did have names, actually.
A pic I took from the book Where The Wild Things are. I kind of liked the arrangement of coloring in a way, the texture most of all and how it reminded me of the rough spun coffee bag around the cover of some loungey record I got around the turn of the century ... and its overall style, of course.
When I was still deep into advertising I just sucked up everything I found about it. This must have been when I first heard of South By Southwest in Austin, Texas. The mere idea of its existence must have overwhelmed me.
A pic from when I was still trying to find my place in the Frankfurt scene and figure out what it was all about and if I even belonged - not that I ever really got in! This here is a flyer of a book release's vernissage at Club Michel, a kind of culinary club for the initiated around Ata and his crew. He let his disciples cook there and you could sign-up for a place to dine, meet up and network. The book is about the Robert Johnson club in Offenbach, of course.
Just a pic I made at my fave futuretro record store Tactile in Frankfurt while listening to music on vinyl. This must have been at its old location in the Kaiserpassage @ Bahnhofsviertel and I have no idea what event or record or whatever that flyer was for.
Some style mag our CEO left and my AD's first sketches of a typography to paint on a Frankfurt café's wall. The stint never came to fruition, but what is funny here is that it is (or was) on the Liebfrauenberg, where the collegiate church is located to which the historical Brotherhood of Saint Mark used to have its offices close by. I practice fencing at a club in their tradition today. Who would have thought a connection like this would ever happen years later. From creative work to creative work.
At some point we had some biz partners from Australia over and I was so invested in the whole social media and insta filter thing that I had to take a photo of everything I found interesting. Like this old school radio in an old school hotel smelling of the 1970s by the Frankfurt zoo.
Shot of a record by an artist I got into while hanging out with someone I had met years before and been working together with at Discomania in the warehouse. Never really liked the guy's bearing, which didn't get any better this second time ... but I felt so lost after my break-up ... didn't even realize it had actually happened ... the record might be something by Warpaint, but maybe not, some remixes perhaps – not sure, but it is actually more of a light blue if I recall correctly and the insta filter made it come out like this.
This might be some sort of dirty glossy filter over studio 2's mixing console at radio x in Frankfurt. I can't say if this was taken after their move from Schützenstraße to Bockenheim, but what I can is that I had a very good time there playing every fourth Tuesday night for x-fade die DJ Nacht ... at least as long as I didn't move on with my musical taste and my partner just machine-like continued to do what he did best – one true machine if it comes to DJing! Unfortunately, it wasn't my thing to keep on playing one style, always struggling to find myself in music and most possibly in all aspects of my life.
Of course, this is about the same art director as above. Sketching stuff while we're in a meeting, never fully there but always there in some way. Too much energy in their brains, neurons flying around, but can't remember what this talk was actually about, neither who was present. Probably something about Nike or how to deal with the shenanigans in regard to the other agency that booked us for social media assistance, running their client's channels basically ... yeah ... truly a shit business how things work once it's all about money.
This is a nice example of the things you do when letting yourself fall for music magazines hyping up new records. Pitchfork it was in this case, I believe ... wrote a nice review and I bought the record. Listened to it once and now it's gathering dust in my record shelf. No, I've never been into hip hop, never been my thing. Played some Ice-T up and down in my car for a while, but never kept up with it. Still remember the time and place I bought this Home Invasion album on CD though. That department store doesn't exist anymore, of course.
Kichijōji was the place I first met with Kashiwa Daisuke in 2005, an artist whose music we discovered for the onpa))))) label during the naughties. He played live at Bar Drop that night and a friend from university and I ventured there, absolutely positively misreading the map and walking in the wrong direction for about what felt like an hour. We even came past the Ghibli Museum while the place we actually needed to be was only about a five minute walk to the other side of the tracks.
I kind of loved playing delivery boy for these boxes of Tenuta Roveglia, a winery in Northern Italy where my cousin's husband used to work. I got them for a good price to be sold without margin to a guy I knew from Discomania–then its Executive Distribution Officer or sth–who is still at this time in 2025 running a tea and wine shop with his husband. That Lugana is still one of my favorite wines for warm and cozy summer nights, although I don't really drink any wine anymore.
